Can money buy happiness?

They say money can’t buy happiness but actually it can.  Multiple studies have shown that are many ways of using your money that actually does boost your personal happiness and wellbeing!

How Money can buy happiness:

  1. Buy Experiences - the ideal experience should:

    • bring you together with other people

    • make a memorable story you can enjoy retelling for years to come

    • be tightly linked with your sense of who you are or want to be

    • provides a unique experience that you aren’t likely to do again

  2. Make it a Treat

    • having or experiencing something a lot, even something great that you really like, will decrease your enjoyment of it.

    • intentionally limiting your access can help you enjoy certain things more

  3. Buy Time

    • people may say “time is money” but thinking of your time as a monetary commodity may actually can steal your enjoyment of unpaid experiences

    • time is time and money is money and actually time is likely a scarer commodity

  4. Pay now, consume later

    • when you pay for things in advance when it comes to experiencing the purchase you get more enjoyment from it. Maybe your brain is tricked into thinking you got it for free!

    • the pain comes actually seeing money leaving the bank account. Get that over with early

    • Thomas Jefferson knew this before studies proved it when he said “Never spend your money before you have it.”

  5. Invest in Others - ideally when you invest in others you will:

    • make it a choice

    • make a connection

    • make an impact

  6. Personal Fit - spending money in a way that fits your personality and values:

    • know yourself and what motivates and drives you

    • adjust your spending to better match what you know about yourself
